Integrity is a key attribute in selecting a candidate for any office of public service. Proverbs 14:34 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." Righteousness in Proverbs refers to a moral uprightness, people with integrity and character. These are the kind of people that make a community and a nation shine!
If upright people exalt a nation, what does this imply about leaders? It means a political leader should be a model of God-honoring virtue and integrity. Any nation with people and leaders like this will be a blessed place to live.
Proverbs 11:3 highlights the qualities on upright men and women when it states, "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them." Integrity is important in all four areas of a person's life: personal, family, work and community.
Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary states, "Integrity comprehends the whole moral character ..."
