Plymouth student is repeat poetry champion
INDIANAPOLIS - A student from a northern Indiana high school has won her second consecutive championship in a statewide poetry reading competition.
The Indiana Arts Commission says Emma Libersky of Plymouth High School won first place in the 2014 Indiana Poetry Out Loud State Finals. She's the first repeat state champion in the competition's eight year history.
Libersky was chosen from a field of 18 finalists in the contest held Feb. 22 at the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library in downtown Indianapolis.
She'll receive a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in April. Her school gets $500 to purchase poetry books.
A total of $50,000 in scholarship awards and school stipends will be awarded at the National Finals.
