COD travel expenses are petty cash comparatively

While I appreciate Daily Herald staffers being committed to watching over how taxes are spent, I take great issue with the "investigation" into the ongoing reimbursement of travel expenses to unpaid College of DuPage trustees. As a former resident of DuPage County, I was thankful for the time that my trustees put into their various functions as public servants, and the idea that their $1,500 in travel expenses over a period of two years would make the front page of the Herald is incomprehensible.

These poor trustees had to defend themselves in the article, like they were high-rollers on the taxpayers' dime. This is chump change compared to the Medicaid and other forms of government fraud that makes a much bigger dent in our wallets.

Please give these loyal volunteers their gas money and allow your columnists to pursue much bigger fish.
