Illinois is getting a federal emergency grant to help pay for cleanup and recovery from last spring's severe storms.

The U.S. Department of Labor said Monday that a $647,000 grant is being awarded to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development.

The money will help pay temporary workers to help with the cleanup from flooding, tornadoes and other storms last April and May.

Officials say debris removal still is needed in many parks and drainage districts.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency last June declared 40 Illinois counties eligible for its public assistance program.

The most recent grant will be spent in Calhoun, Cass, Fulton, Mason, Morgan, Pike, Schuyler and Scott counties. The state could be eligible for more funding if needed.
