New pastor installed at bilingual Aurora church

The Rev. Sandra Jones was installed at 3 p.m. Feb. 16 as pastor of New Hope/Nueva Esperanza Church, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America church, which holds separate services in English and Spanish, bilingual services and activities.

The installation service took place at Fourth Street United Methodist Church, 551 S. Fourth St. in Aurora. Fourth Street UMC has shared facilities with New Hope/Nueva Esperanza since May.

The Rev. Bishop Wayne N. Miller officiated with Rev. Hector Garfias-Toledo. Other participants included the Rev. Deborah Tinsley-Taylor, pastor, Fourth Street UMC; Ricardo Pedroza, Linda Quantock, Marcy Harlin, Maribel Torres, Mildred Marrero, Marlin Mittag, Hector Hernandez and Sandra Solis; and confirmands from Nueva Esperanza and ELCA Metro Chicago Synod clergy.

Last year, the dual congregations sold their North Aurora church building, relocated to Fourth Street UMC and lost their pastor to a new call.
