Cellphone, Wi-Fi upgrades on tap in Rosemont

Cellphone and Internet Wi-Fi service will be upgraded this year at several venues in Rosemont, officials said.

Boingo Wireless will operate a distributed antenna system and provide public Wi-Fi service at the Allstate Arena, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont Theatre and the MB Financial Park at Rosemont entertainment district.

Boingo will install DAS and Wi-Fi networks at the arena and theater, as well as a Wi-Fi network and a macrocell in the entertainment district. The company will augment its existing Wi-Fi services at the convention center with a new DAS network.

The Wi-Fi service, which will be ad-supported, will be free for users at all participating venues.

The village board approved a five-year agreement last November with Boingo's sister company, Concourse Communications Group.
