Man dies in Mundelein parking lot accident
A 64-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle in a Mundelein grocery store parking lot Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
John Rozanacki of Mundelein was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville at 1:23 a.m., Sunday, said Orlando Portillo, chief deputy coroner of the Lake County Coroner's Office.
Mundelein Deputy Police Chief John Monahan said police were summoned to the Aldi Foods parking lot in the 700 block of Route 83, where a 55-year-old female driver had run into Rozanacki about 1:03 p.m. Saturday.
Rozanacki was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he died from his injuries about 12 hours later, Monahan said.
An autopsy Monday showed Rozanacki died from trauma to the back of the head, and the injuries were consistent with someone who fell and hit their head, Monahan said. Alcohol and drugs did not play a role in Saturday's crash, and no citations were issued against the female driver, he added.
“The driver was taken to Condell for blood and urine check, and at this point, everything came back as negative,” he said.
Because the accident took place on private property, no citations would be issued unless the driver was intoxicated or was driving recklessly, Monahan said. The accident remains under investigation.
