SRACLC participants study kickboxing
Submitted by the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County
The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County reserves Monday nights for kickboxing with the Black Tiger Martial Arts Academy. For an hour each week, 12 of SRACLC's participants join Kru Brandon Burton and his staff to learn various aspects of Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Each week the participants talk about bullies, self-defense, and appropriate use of techniques. They then break off into different stations to train punches, kicks, elbows and knees. At the end of each session they work on practicing a specific self-defense move.
On the final Monday, the participants get to put on all the gear and get into the ring to show off the techniques they've learned.
"We love teaching these young adults because they are the most appreciative and happiest people ever. Working with them fixes any bad day us coaches may have had. We look forward to every session," Burton said.
Black Tiger Martial Arts Academy also offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA training along with Muay Thai Kickboxing. The academy is inside the Libertyville Sports Complex, 1950 Route 45 in Libertyville.
In addition to kickboxing, SRACLC also has many other programs available for individuals with disabilities starting at ages 3 and older. SRACLC offers Special Olympics sports, camps, special events, weekly programs, and more.
