Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is that?I was appointed as Committeeman in the summer of 2012 so this is my first time running for election to the office. The role of Committeeman is to ensure that our local democracy is healthy and engaging. It's a volunteer position requiring a mix of skills including organizer, fundraiser, publicist and adviser among other things. To that end, I regularly host open meetings for the public so they can learn about progressive ideas, values and news from candidates, incumbents and experts. I've also helped a dozen local candidates run for various offices just since my appointment as Committeeman in 2012.What differentiates you most from your opponents in the race?I am a long-time member of the Wheeling Township Democrats and routinely devote several hundred hours each year volunteering for local Democrats. I designed and maintain the local party's website at wheelingdems.com plus our Facebook and Twitter accounts -- all specifically for local Democrats. With the help of my fellow volunteers, we raised nearly $30,000 in 2013 for the local party and local candidates. Along with our colleagues from Palatine Township, I also assist in overseeing the only full-time local Democratic office in the northwest suburbs. Finally, is there anything we haven't asked about that you feel we should know? The two-party system is the heart of our American democracy. That's true at the local level as much as at the national level. In the spring of 2012, before my fellow local Democrats appointed me as Committeeman, I was honored to be given the Pat Botterman Leadership Award. Pat passed away much too young in 2008. He was a good friend of mine and I am still humbled to have earned this award named after him; an award recognizing the fundamental commitment that Pat displayed to making our communities better.I was appointed Wheeling Township Democratic Committeeman, in part, for the same reason I earned the Botterman Award. I work hard, as a volunteer, to help candidates whose values, morals and dedication I share. This is all in an effort to improve our communities.I humbly ask my fellow Democrats to vote for me so that I can continue that work, ensuring that our local Democratic party is vibrant and growing.
