Winter storm advisory warns of blowing snow tonight

A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon Wednesday for the suburban area and city of Chicago.

Blowing snow is predicted with wind gusts of 20-25 mph. Snow may be heavy at times, with the accumulation expected to reach as much as 5 inches, maybe more in isolated areas especially near the lake. Temperatures will be steady in the lower 20s.

More blowing snow is expected Wednesday with snow in the morning and a total accumulation of 5 to 8 inches, mostly to the south, where this a winter storm warning, according to the National Weather Service.

State police advised caution while driving tonight.

"The Illinois State Police are asking drivers to monitor changing weather conditions, limit their travels, and be prepared to allow plenty of time to reach your destination," Drivers are also encouraged to put extra water, food, and warm clothing in their vehicle."
