A DuPage County judge set bond at $2 million Saturday for Grant Muren, 21, who is facing first degree murder charges in the death of Charles Clarke of Naperville. Muren found Clarke, 54, through a Craigslist roommate listing. Suburban survivors of clergy abuse can face lifelong struggle

Survivors of clergy sexual abuse say the trauma they suffered decades ago is something they still must deal with in their daily lives. Each person deals with the pain differently. But they all agree that talking about it helps the healing process. “It still is a journey,” said priest sex abuse survivor Carmen Severino of Naperville. “But the more it comes out, the better it will be for those suffering in silence.” Full story.

Counties taking extra step on concealed carry

Though state law now allows Illinois residents to carry concealed handguns in public, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties are considering banning non-law enforcement county employees from carrying concealed handguns while working outside of public buildings, even if they have a valid state permit. “Except for authorized people like security and sheriff's department, employees will be barred from having any weapons concealed carry or otherwise,” DuPage County Board member Grant Eckhoff predicted. Police: TV falls, kills 4-year-old girl

Police are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl who had a television fall on her Sunday evening at her home in Aurora. According to a news release, the girl's mother called police to an apartment on the 1200 block of Nantucket Avenue around 5:49 p.m. after a television fell off a stand onto her daughter. The girl was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora where she was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m. Full story.

Ex-karate instructor, paralyzed in jail, sentenced for sex with students

A former karate instructor accused of having sex with two of students in Kane and DuPage counties pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Dean Fuerstenberg, 45, was arrested in August 2011 after he moved to Eden Prairie, Minn. A court hearing was held at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where he has been treated since breaking his back, paralyzing him from the chest down, at the DuPage County jail in November 2013. Quinn's big speech to focus on economy

Gov. Pat Quinn's State of the State address Wednesday gives the Democrat a pulpit to take some of the 2014 political attention back from the four Republican primary candidates for governor that have made their campaigns attacking him. Des Plaines area teen charged in fatal crash

A Des Plaines area is facing DUI charges in a fatal crash in Glenview. Dustin Aranda, 18, was charged Thursday with aggravated driving under the influence causing death and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver after his car struck a 65-year-old pedestrian on Jan. 17, according to authorities. Aranda tested positive for THC and Benzodiazepine, police said. Full story.

Arrest made in Elgin party shooting

A Carpentersville man has been charged with aggravated battery in connection with a Jan. 12 shooting that injured five people. An arrest warrant was issued Jan. 23 for Andrew J. Williams, 25, of the 0-99 block of Middlesex. He turned himself in to Elgin police Friday morning. Full story.
