Kayaking coming to Naperville’s Paddleboat Quarry

Naperville Park District is thinking about summer as staff members make plans to offer kayaking at the Paddleboat Quarry along the downtown Riverwalk.

Brad Wilson, director of recreation, said he is working with Naperville Kayak, a relatively new company that leads tours in the Naperville area, to offer rentals this summer.

“It would be another amenity available to residents through the course of the summer,” Wilson said.

Wilson and Naperville Kayak owner Troy Cooper said they are working out details about what types of kayaks will be available — singles, tandems, or both — and the cost for renting one to paddle around the quarry.

The Naperville park board was supportive of the idea at a recent meeting, and Wilson said commissioners will be able to vote on an agreement in the spring.

Cooper, who launched Naperville Kayak in 2008 with his wife, said he is excited to bring the activity more prominently to the public in Naperville.

Paddleboats still will be available for rent this summer at the quarry, located just west of Eagle Street and north of Aurora Avenue.
