Police responded to a call at 8:26 a.m. at a Mundelein home reporting an unconscious girl lying in a bedroom, according to a news release.

When police arrived, the release said, they found the dead girl inside the residence. Police would not confirm her age on Tuesday night.

As a precaution area schools, including Mechanics Grove Junior High, Carl Sandburg Middle School and Mundelein High School, were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning while officers secured the area. The lockdown was lifted by 8:45 a.m.
