Autopsy planned for girl found dead in Mundelein home

Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd said an autopsy will be performed today on a young girl who was found dead in her Mundelein bedroom on Tuesday morning.

Police have said one person is in custody but would not confirm reports about how the girl died or who was in custody.

Police responded to a call at 8:26 a.m. at a Mundelein home reporting an unconscious girl lying in a bedroom, according to a news release.

When police arrived, the release said, they found the dead girl inside the residence. Police would not confirm her age on Tuesday night.

The Mundelein Police Department is working with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force in this death investigation, according to the release..

As a precaution area schools, including Mechanics Grove Junior High, Carl Sandburg Middle School and Mundelein High School, were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning while officers secured the area. The lockdown was lifted by 8:45 a.m.

Mundelein High School District 120 Superintendent Jody Ware said police didn’t give her a reason for the lockdown.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but the surrounding neighborhood is not in danger.
