Snowmobile crashes into ice shanty, killing rider

LUCK, Wis. - A snowmobile operator is suspected of driving drunk when he crashed into an ice fishing shanty on a Polk County lake and killed the woman riding with him.

Woman dies at scene Sheriff's deputies say two snowmobiles were riding in tandem on Bone Lake Wednesday night when one of them hit the empty shanty. Authorities say the 20-year-old woman suffered severe head injuries despite wearing a helmet. She died at the scene of the crash near Luck.

Man faces chargesThe 21-year-old St. Croix Falls man operating the snowmobile was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drunken driving. He was not injured.
