DuPage County prosecutors citied a possible conflict of interest Thursday as they reached out for assistance from neighboring Kane County in the upcoming prosecution of CBS 2 Chicago investigative reporter Dave Savini.
Court documents filed Wednesday state Savini is the brother-in-law of a supervisor in the DuPage state's attorney's office who could be called as a witness in the case.
Savini, of Naperville, faces misdemeanor charges including battery, driving under the influence of alcohol, and endangering the life of a child after he left the scene of a minor traffic accident on Jan. 4 at a Naperville Taco Bell.
Police said the driver of the other vehicle wanted to report the collision to police, but Savini refused, The driver said Savini pushed him when he used his phone to photograph Savini's license plate. Police arrested him a short time later near Saratoga and Plainfield-Naperville roads. Two children under 18 were in the car, which led to the endangerment charge,
Neither Savini nor his attorney, Terry Ekl, were present in court Wednesday. Savini is next due in court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in room 4002. An undetermined Kane County prosecutor will be appointed at that time.
