Northwestern adds documentary program

Northwestern University is adding to its master of fine arts degree with a program in documentary media.

The program’s director, Debra Tolchinsky, says in a news release that documentaries were once considered secondary but they’re now a vital part of entertainment, promotion and advocacy. Tolchinsky is an associate professor and documentary filmmaker whose work has been featured at the Sundance Film Festival.

It’ll be a two-year program and each candidate will get access to $5,000 to help produce a thesis project.

School officials say there’ll also be internship opportunities in major U.S. cities. Applications are due Feb. 15.
