13-year-old charged in killing of cousin

Cook County prosecutors say a 13-year-old Chicago boy has been charged in the shooting death of his cousin as the victim slept.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports authorities say the shooting occurred after the two may have argued over video games.

Cook County state’s attorney’s spokeswoman Tandra Simonton says the 13-year-old, unidentified because of his age, was charged Monday as a juvenile in the shooting Sunday of 16-year-old Raymond Galloway. The victim was visiting his cousin’s home when the shooting occurred.

Authorities say Galloway was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died Monday.

Cook County Circuit Judge Stuart Katz on Monday ordered the 13-year-old held in custody. It wasn’t immediately known if the teen has legal representation.

Chicago police say it’s unclear how the alleged shooter obtained the gun.
