Pedestrian struck by train in Glen Ellyn

An unidentified man was taken to an area hospital Friday afternoon after being hit by a commuter train in downtown Glen Ellyn, authorities said.

Police said the man was struck by an eastbound Metra train shortly after 2 p.m. at the Main Street crossing.

Crossing gates were down when the man, who doesn’t appear to have been a commuter, went around a lowered pedestrian gate and tried to cross the tracks, authorities said. He was attempting to cross from the south side of the tracks to the north.

The crossing remained closed as of 3 p.m.
