Chicago man sentenced to 70 years in gang shooting

A Chicago man is facing 70 years in prison for the murder of a man shot in his car on the city’s South Side.

Michael Dawson was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Famous Ware. Ware was shot multiple times as he sat in a car parked in a residential neighborhood in January 2009.

Prosecutors said he was approached by Dawson and other gang members who opened fire on the vehicle. Ware was struck five times and died at the scene.

Cook County Judge Dennis Porter handed Dawson the 70-year prison term during a Wednesday hearing in Chicago.

A co-defendant in the case pleaded guilty to murder earlier this year and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
