Do a better job at pointing out corruption

With all due respect, your Dec. 3 “Goldilocks” opinion of the Illinois pension deal is the perfect illustration of why Illinois is in such dire straits. Let’s start with the facts. Illinois is the most bankrupt (bond ratings) and corrupt state (FBI and university studies) in the United States of America. That corruption was created by the parasitic relationship between our corrupt state political leaders and the unions that fund their campaigns and vote for them. In both cases, those corrupt political leaders and unions use other people’s money (taxes and union dues) to reward each other for giving each other more money from the public “trough.”

This would all stop if the public that is paying these insane taxes understood the depth of this corruption and how it is killing jobs as companies flee the state and we drain the bank accounts of our citizens through insane taxes. If the Daily Herald and other state news media outlets did their job and fully informed the public of the extent of this corruption and abuse, an informed public would demand change.

It is interesting to note that while the Daily Herald says that the deal is the best we can get, The Wall Street Journal’s editorial headline on Dec. 3 says it best for their readers: “Illinois’ Fake Pension Deal.” And so it is. The WSJ added further clarity in that editorial when it said, “The most dysfunctional state government lives down to its reputation.”

I would implore the Daily Herald do to its job and inform its readers of the disaster and embarrassment that is Illinois politics. It is time to motivate the public to demand change before it is too late and we join Detroit in bankruptcy.
