State suspends Niles doctor’s license

The state of Illinois has temporarily suspended the medical license of a Chicago doctor over accusations he improperly provided someone with prescriptions for 11,000 tablets of the painkiller Oxycodone.

The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation said Friday that Gregory M. Bulava provided the person with prescriptions in the names of people who were never the doctor’s patients.

Bulava could not be reached for comment Friday at his Chicago office or his home in Niles.

According to the department’s complaint, Bulava initially lied to Drug Enforcement Administration investigators. He told them that the people whose names were on the prescriptions were patients of his who were hurt on the job or were involved in vehicle accidents.

Bulava is to appear Monday before the department’s medical disciplinary board.
