Amazon, post office a smart partnership

“Amazon, U.S. Postal Service to partner.” So proclaimed the headline in the Daily Herald’s Business section.

A preceding headline to this one should have read, “Amazon or Google or Facebook or Twitter or Yahoo or eBay or Cisco or Oracle or Microsoft, or all have partnered with the Obama administration to build the Affordable Care Act website.”

Is there any doubt whatsoever that any one of these tech giants could have had a functioning website up and running efficiently in less than a year at a fraction of the cost that the federal government has invested — $500 million and still counting — to get the debacle of a website functioning properly?

Kudos to Amazon and more importantly to the USPS, which makes money on package deliveries, for striking a partnership that utilizes assets from the Postal Service to provide a service that the general public will applaud and appreciate.
