Relic with vial of pope's blood heading to Peoria

PEORIA -- A vial of Pope John Paul II's blood will be on display in Peoria next week.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports the vial is encased in a gold Book of the Gospels and will be displayed Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral.

The former pope who led the Catholic Church from 1978 until 2005 is set to become a saint this spring.

The Peoria diocese is one of only three in the U.S. that's set to host the relic.
