Collinsville site of teen driving program
SPRINGFIELD — Officials for the state of Illinois and private companies are launching a four-day “Drive for Tomorrow” teen-driving school at the Collinsville Gateway Center.
Teens from ten area high schools will participate in simulated road-hazard experiences at the event and learn about the effects of alcohol and drugs. The event will also deal with excessive speed and the importance of seat-belt use.
Training is structured like a typical school day with students divided into six groups to attend various safety sessions.
They will also be able to participate in hands-on activities such as the “Seat-Belt Convincer” and “Rollover Simulator.” They will drive through golf cart courses wearing “Fatal Vision” goggles that simulate alcohol impairment.
“Drive for Tomorrow” is provided by corporate sponsors including State Farm Insurance Cos. and Grey Eagle Distributing.
