9 hurt, including 4 officers, during Chicago crash

Nine people, including four police officers, were hurt during a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Chicago’s far South Side.

Authorities say the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday when a car slammed into an unmarked squad car, which had pulled over an SUV for a traffic stop. Police spokesman Hector Alfaro says the unmarked squad car then struck the SUV, which in turn hit a second patrol car that was at the scene.

A fire department spokesman tells WMAQ-TV that eight people were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition. One person refused treatment.

Alfaro says none of the injuries were life-threatening.

No charges have been filed.
