State plans upgrades to National Guard centers
SPRINGFIELD — Illinois officials are announcing upgrades costing $3.3 million for three Illinois Army National Guard “readiness centers” in Chicago.
Gov. Pat Quinn said Thursday the repairs to the state-owned buildings will “prolong the life of these facilities and spur the local economies.”
A new roof, new doors and windows, tuck-pointing and interior repairs, as well as asbestos abatement are generally planned for each of the buildings.
The Donnelly building is home to about 380 soldiers assigned there.
The General Jones Armory serves about 450 soldiers who train there.
The Midway Airport Army Aviation Support Facility houses about 180 soldiers and 11 aircraft.
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board and all will use federal funds administered by Illinois officials.
