Illinois EPA seeking court action on refinery fire

Citgo says a fire at its refinery in Lemont did not cause any environmental damage.

In a news release issued Friday, Citgo also says there is “no current risk of endangerment to human health or the environment” as a result of the Oct. 23 fire.

Earlier in the day, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency asked the state’s attorney general’s office to seek a court order to compel Citgo to do a cause analysis and submit other information for state review. Citgo’s statement does not mention that request, but the company does says it is has voluntarily provided whatever information the agency has requested.
