IDNR wants input on Lake Michigan plan

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is asking for residents to help identify priorities for the management and protection of the Lake Michigan coastline.

The department says the input will be used to guide the direction of the state's coastal management program over the next three to five years, and will also help hone funding priorities. Illinois lays claim to more than 60 miles of Lake Michigan coastline.

Department Director Marc Miller says the work will ensure future generations can enjoy one of the country's most important natural resources.

Hearings will be held in Waukegan next Tuesday and in Chicago next Wednesday and Thursday. Residents can view a draft of the current plan and register for the meetings at the department's website.
