Sweet fall flavors
Through October, try Baskin Robbins' version of Whoopie Pies — chocolate cake with your favorite ice cream flavor sandwiched in between. The flavor of the month is Trick OREO Treat — vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookie pieces, Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy pieces. Or try the pumpkin pie ice cream, pumpkin pie milkshake, pumpkin pie cappuccino blast, or the haunted house cake and pumpkin patch cake.
Baskin Robbins has locations throughout the suburbs. baskinrobbins.com.
Sunday family dinner
Sit down with the fam for a Sunday dinner at Cibo Racconto. It's a four-course family-style feast priced at $36 for four people. Choose a salad, a side dish, two pasta dishes and any entree from the menu — such as the chicken Vesuvio or Marsala, eggplant Parmesan or Italian giambotta. 3 to 9 p.m. every Sunday. Add an extra person for $9. Kids 5 and younger eat for free.
Cibo Racconto is located at 10441 Touhy Ave., Rosemont. (847) 699-2020 or ciboracconto.com.
Key Lime Cove's chef
A new executive chef now oversees the six restaurants within Key Lime Cove — the resort with a giant indoor water park in Gurnee. Holly Rinal joined the culinary staff there in 2008 as a sous chef. She's most recently been involved with amending menus to meet more specific dietary needs including gluten-, dairy- and peanut-free options.
Key Lime Cove is at 1700 Nations Drive, Gurnee. (877) 360-0403 or keylimecove.com.
