Police say man tried to snatch woman’s purse in downtown Libertyville

Libertyville police are looking for a man who tried to steal a woman’s purse and pushed her to the ground Thursday evening in the downtown area.

Police said the 38-year-old woman was standing outside a business on the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue just before 6 p.m. when a man approached her from behind and tried to take the purse, which she was carrying on her shoulder. The woman refused to let go of the purse and the man pushed her down, resulting in a minor injury, according to police.

The man fled ran from the area after other pedestrians came to her aid, according to police.

The man was described as 30 to 40 years old with a buzzed hair cut, and he was wearing a light purple button down dress shirt. Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Libertyville police at (847) 362-8310.
