Mundelein commission looking for diversity nominees

The Mundelein human relations commission is seeking nominees for the fourth annual Diversity Awards.

The awards recognize and celebrate efforts to promote, initiate programs for, and advocate for cultural awareness.

The nominees must create or be part of a program that recognizes diversity, demonstrates peaceful problem solving, promotes social or cultural understanding, or builds cross-cultural relations.

Nominations will be assessed on the level to which the activities are successful, as measured by sustainability, replicability, and the provision of opportunities for others to learn innovative methods of promoting tolerance.

Nominees must live in Mundelein, attend school here or work in the village.

The inaugural award was presented in 2011 to a member of the Mundelein High School staff for her leadership of a club that functions to increase acceptance of Latin culture and promotes academic success among Latino students.

Four awards were given in 2012, and in 2013 two awards were given.

Nomination forms are available online at mundelein.org. You can also contact a human relations commission staff liaison, at (847) 949-3282 or planning@mundelein.org.

The nomination process closes Dec. 6, 2013.
