Arlington Heights fire open house Saturday

Residents and children can get a close-up view of firefighting equipment and fire apparatus at the Arlington Heights Fire Department’s Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Fire Station #1, 300 E. Sigwalt St.

The open house is held in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6-12. The Fire Prevention theme for this year is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.”

Besides learning more about fire prevention tips at the open house, visitors also will learn about firefighting equipment and how it’s used. Residents will have a chance to get into a firetruck and watch demonstrations of what firefighters are trained to do.

There will also be the Safety House, fire and rescue equipment on display, face painting and games, and an appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog.

Free parking is located in the Municipal Garage just west of Fire Station #1.
