Dixon holds town hall to discuss $40M settlement
DIXON — Residents of Dixon will get a chance to weigh in on how the northern Illinois community should spend $40 million it’s getting as part of a legal settlement.
The (Dixon) Telegraph reports the city will hold a town hall meeting next Thursday to discuss the out-of-court settlement with a bank and auditor it had accused of not doing enough to expose former Comptroller Rita Crundwell’s theft.
Dixon lost more than $53 million over two decades to the thieving former bookkeeper. Crundwell was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
The city also recouped about $10 million by selling off Crundwell’s belongings, but it incurred $10 million in legal and other costs.
