7 arrested in Chicago for trafficking cocaine

Seven suspects have been arrested on charges they trafficked cocaine on Chicago's southwest side.

The FBI said in a Wednesday statement that the arrested men range in age from 22 to 38. All were arrested Tuesday and will be held until their next court appearances.

The FBI says the investigation began in 2011. Several people were arrested last year as part of the same investigation.

The agency statement doesn't provide details about the total amounts of cocaine allegedly involved or about what Chicago neighborhoods may have been targeted. Six of the suspects are from Chicago, and one is from Hammond, Ind.

Each is charged with a felony narcotics count. Some face maximum penalties of 40 years in prison if convicted. Others face mandatory minimum sentences of five years.
