Illinois nursing home cited for truck stop incident

LEBANON — Health officials cited a southwestern Illinois nursing home after workers left a wheelchair-bound man at a truck stop without medication or ID when he refused to submit to a mandatory background check.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports the parent company of Lebanon Care Center was cited for improper nursing care, violating a resident's rights and an involuntary transfer.

A Petersen Health Network executive says they'll appeal.

The 56-year-old man was deposited at a Flying J truck stop in Alorton 20 miles away from the facility in July after authorities say he refused to undergo a criminal background check.

Nursing homes are required to perform the checks.

Lebanon Care Center officials say the man asked to go to the truck stop restaurant.

He returned to the nursing home the next day.
