Coroner: Dental records ID woman killed in plane crash
The Will County coroner's office has used dental records to formally identify the body of Jayanthy Venguswamy, one of two people killed when a small plane crashed Wednesday near a bank in Bolingbrook, authorities said Friday morning.
The woman, whom coroner's officials said was 55 years old, was a passenger in a Cirrus SR-20 single-engine plane being flown by her husband, Dr. Narayan Venguswamy, when it crashed about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at 262 S. Weber Road.
She was identified by examination of dental records because of the extent of thermal injuries she suffered in the fiery crash, authorities said.
Jayanthy Venguswamy was pronounced dead on the scene, while her husband was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and then to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood before being pronounced dead early Thursday morning.
The couple, of Georgetown, Ky., was traveling from Scott County Marshall Field airport in Georgetown to Clow International Airport in Bolingbrook, where Venguswamy apparently touched down to land but took off again before crashing.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading a probe into the crash with the Federal Aviation Administration. Investigators have moved the four-seat plane's wreckage to a secure location for further examination as they continue working to determine what caused the crash.
