IDOT establishes freight advisory council
SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation is establishing a freight advisory council.
Department officials say the council's goal is to improve intermodal transportation and keep the state's position as the primary freight transportation hub of the nation. It's designed to function similarly to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Freight Advisory Committee and will reflect a mix of freight experts, including railroad port and airport operators, freight shippers and receivers.
The department is asking for nominations of potential members for the council between now and Oct. 15. Qualified candidates should have private or public sector experience representing freight companies using Illinois highways, railways, waterways and airways.
An announcement of the new members is expected to be made later this fall.
