Arrest made after body found in Farmer City

FARMER CITY, Ill. — Police have arrested a suspect in Farmer City after a body was found in an alley during a small-town festival.

The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department arrested a suspect Saturday in connection with the body found earlier in the day in Farmer City. The town of about 2,000 was hosting its Heritage Days festival. County officers and Illinois State Police worked at the crime scene while the festival went on nearby.

The Pantagraph in Bloomington reports a pedestrian found the body of a white male in his 30s.

Sheriff Jered Shofner says police believe the victim and suspect are not local. He says there’s no threat to public safety and the festival is continuing on schedule.

Authorities did not identify the suspect or say how the man died.
