Marriott Theatre receives 13 Jeff nominations

Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire has received 13 Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for excellence in Chicago-area theater.

Marriott's "South Pacific" earned nominations for best musical; director David H. Bell; principal actors Stephen R. Buntrock and Elizabeth Lanza; and supporting actors Stef Tovar and Bethany Thomas.

Andrew Lupp and Ted Louis were nominated for their performances in Marriott's "My One and Only," while Raena White picked up a lead actress nod for her performance in "Dreamgirls."

First Folio Theatre's folk-inspired "Cymbeline" received nominations, officially announced today, for David Rice's adaptation and for Rice and Michael Keefe's original music. Actress Kristine Thatcher earned a nomination for her solo turn in the Oak Brook theater's "Underneath the Lintel."

Previous winner Rachel Rockwell received a directing nod for "Oliver" at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace. The production also earned nominations for musical and lead actress Heidi Kettenring. Christine Sherrill, as Norma Desmond in Drury Lane's "Sunset Boulevard," received a principal actress nomination, while Matthew Crowle picked up acting and choreography nominations for "Singin' in the Rain."

Chicago Shakespeare Theater earned the most nominations of any area theater - a total of 19 - with eight alone for its stellar "Sunday in the Park with George."

Goodman Theatre's premiere of Mary Zimmerman's musical "The Jungle Book" received four nominations. Steppenwolf Theatre's "Good People" and American Theater Company's "columbinus" dominated the play categories with five nominations each.

The 45th Annual Jeff Awards ceremony takes place Nov. 4 at Drury Lane Oakbrook. Tickets and information are available at jeffawards.org.
