New Tradition Chorus to peform for Brainerd fundraiser

The New Tradition Chorus will bring a cappella harmonies to Libertyville in a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 West Maple Ave., Libertyville.

The concert will be a benefit for the Brainerd Community Center to raise awareness of the importance of the March 18, 2014, referendum that will determine the future of the historic Brainerd Building.

The performance would be an example of what would follow at a renovated Brainerd Auditorium, according to organizers.

The New Tradition Chorus has won 18 International first-place medals, combining musical harmony, choreography, and costumes since 1982. The group, under the direction of Jay Giallombardo, has sung the national anthem at Chicago Bears, Slaughter and Rush football games; at Chicago White Sox baseball games; and has performed at Disneyland, among other venues.

Appearing throughout the Midwest, the chorus has performed with the Lake Forest and Northbrook Symphony orchestras, and has appeared in performance with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The New Tradition Chorus has also performed at many charity events and community functions. As part of the Youth in Harmony program, it has helped to conduct workshops for students at Grant High School in Fox Lake, and for Conrady Middle School and Stagg High School students in Palos Park.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students, and are available at www.shop.savebrainerd.org. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door.
