Family sues Fox Waterway over boys death

The family of a 10-year-old Libertyville boy killed last summer while tubing on Petite Lake is suing the Fox Waterway Agency, accusing it of not implementing boat safety rules on the Chain O’ Lakes. Family members of Tony Borcia in Libertyville are seeking more than $250,000 in damages from the Fox Lake-based agency, saying it did not establish boating speed limits, restrict the size of boats allowed on the waterway, or establish areas where people can safely tube and water-ski. Lake in the Hills teen hit by car remembered for her lust for life

Emily Weyers planned to start DePaul University’s political science program next month and eventually focus on gay rights legal issues, but a car struck and killed her while she was walking down Algonquin Road near Oakleaf Road. Weyers, 18, of Lake in the Hills, was a recent Dundee-Crown High School grad, and the school mourned yesterday. Full story.

Three accused of attacking man after South Elgin Riverfest

A 71-year-old man cleaning up after the South Elgin Riverfest early Sunday suffered a serious eye injury after three men beat him. The three men were later arrested after they beat up and robbed a another man in Elgin, police said. Full story.

Wheaton Mariano’s now aiming for late October opening

Wheaton shoppers may have to wait a week or two longer than expected for the grand opening of Mariano’s Fresh Market at the intersection of Naperville and Roosevelt roads. Lisle-area woman falls victim to scam

An elderly woman in an unincorporated area near Lisle fell victim to a scam yesterday afternoon and police are warning residents to be aware of suspicious activity. A man and boy approached the woman, and while the man distracted her, the boy stole her purse from her garage, police said. Full story.

Naperville to offer 3 sizes of recycling carts in new program

If one recycling cart is far too big and another still slightly oversized, a third option may be just right — and the city of Naperville will be offering all three sizes to residents as it switches from bins to covered carts, city councilmen said last night. Full story.

Dempster suspended five games for hitting A-Rod

Former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster has been suspended for five games after intentionally hitting Yankees star Alex Rodriguez with a pitch last weekend. The penalty was announced yesterday, along with a $2,500 fine. Yankees manager Joe Girardi, also a former Cub, said the punishment is necessary to keep pitchers from creating an “open season” on A-Rod, who is appealing his own suspension for doping. Full story.

Cutler says he’s keeping options open
