Dads need to take kids back to school

  • Article
text size: AAA

The first day of school is quickly approaching, and there are many children who will be unaccompanied on their journey to school. Other children will simply not even go to school. There are many separated and divorced dads who would love to take their children to school on the first day but cannot. It is important that fathers are able to take their children to school on the first day. Fathers are more than lunch money.

All kids, especially those from broken homes, should have the support they need. The first day of school is a big deal to a child. Children are very excited to see their old friends and nervous to make new ones. And children need to be protected from predators. The first day of school is special, and must be safe.

Dads need to take their kids back to school to protect them along the way and show support for their education. A father's presence would surely make a gangbanger think twice. According to Detective Wayne Halick, a director of the Fatherhood Educational Institute, "paternal involvement is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, deterrents to youth violence."

It is imperative that we put kids first. Father involvement has a unique impact on a child's outcome including cognitive development, achievement, test scores, and behavior. Parents who are separated, going through a divorce, or those who never got married must put their differences aside for the sake of their children. Fathers need to take their children back to school and show everyone just how protective they are of their kids.
