Chicago welcomes 4 new food trucks to its streets

Four new food trucks are hitting the streets of Chicago, and one of them is equipped with an onboard barbecue smoker.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office announced the newly licensed food trucks Thursday.

The trucks include the Husky Hog BBQ, the city’s first barbecue truck equipped with an onboard smoker. The mayor’s office says the Husky Hog took advantage of the city’s sponsored micro-lending program. The truck got a $10,000 microloan from the Women’s Business Development Center.

Other new food trucks are Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams; Starfruit, serving smoothies, parfaits and frozen treats; and Mar ice cream truck serving shakes and sundaes.

Chicago has about 120 food trucks, including 17 licensed to cook on board.
