Lincoln Park Zoo's new monkey hard to miss

You can't miss the Lincoln Park Zoo's new baby monkey.

The Francois' langur's fur is a vivid burnt orange hue that stands out against the black fur of the older langurs.

But if you want to catch the baby's bright birthday look, you'll have to visit the zoo's Primate House before the color fades over the next three to six months.

The male baby monkey was born July 11.

Scientists think the bright coloring that baby langurs are born with might encourage females in their groups to offer care.

Francois' langurs exhibit a behavior known as “alloparenting” or “aunting,” in which other females in the family help the mother take turns carrying and grooming the infant.

The animals are endangered in their native China and Vietnam because of habitat loss.
