Chicago alderman to be honored by White House

A Chicago alderman is being honored by President Barack Obama in Washington, a day after he acknowledged he'd been questioned by the FBI in an ethics case.

Joe Moore will be recognized Tuesday as part of the president's Winning the Future Initiative, which throws a spotlight on people and organizations whose accomplishments positively impact communities.

The trip comes a day after Moore said he spoke with the FBI about an ethics case involving alleged campaign work in his aldermanic office and the firing of an employee in 2009. He denies any wrongdoing.

Moore has represented his North Side ward since 1991 and is known for turning over his annual $1 million ward budget to district residents. That “participatory budgeting model” allows constituents to vote on how to allocate money.
