Listen to elders: I’m 87 and proud of it

I am 87 years old and proud of it. As proud as I am of my age, I’m even prouder of the shape I’m in. I still go to a fitness center every day and work out. While there I also actively participate in political discussions with a group of friends about the many issues that confront our country today. You see I’m mentally as well as physically fit.

So what is the reason for what might appear as nothing more than an old man bragging about himself? Simple! I care about the future of my country. I look about me and see am epidemic of obesity. I look abut me and see a country drowning in political apathy. I look about me and see mindless video games substituted for intellectual pursuits.

Can any nation long endure under such conditions?

Please listen to your elders. Reject the easy way. Embrace the difficult. Maybe someday you too can make the proud boast — I’m 87.
