Indiana man cleared in shooting of home intruder

LAPORTE, Ind. — A northern Indiana man who police say fatally shot a home intruder won’t face any criminal charges.

The LaPorte County prosecutor has ruled that the homeowner acted in self-defense when he shot 22-year-old Jason Rabe of Three Oaks, Mich.

The Sheriff’s Department says officers were called July 8 to the rural home near the town of Hudson Lake by the homeowner after the shooting. Officers found Rabe dead with a gunshot wound to his chest.

WSBT-TV and WNDU-TV report authorities determined Rabe broke into the home about 15 miles west of South Bend and that he was shot during a struggle.
