Daily Herald report

North Barrington's village board has called an emergency special meeting for 7:30 p.m. today to consider an ordinance banning assault weapons in the village.

Village officials are claiming justification to divert from the normal 48-hour required notice for the meeting because Friday, July 19 is the deadline for such action by Illinois municipalities and the board is unable to meet at any other time before then.
