Crashes snarl rush hour near Gilberts

A series of crashes in the westbound lanes of I-90 near Gilberts Monday evening created lengthy delays, but no major injuries were reported, state police said.

An Illinois Tollway H.E.L.P. truck responded to a minor crash with property damage on westbound I-90 just west of Route 72. While it was blocking a lane of traffic assisting with that crash, another car rear-ended the tollway truck at about 5:20 p.m., said Illinois State Police Dist. 15 Sgt. Tim Zych.

The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the tollway truck had minor injuries, Zych said.

Traffic began moving again by 6:30 p.m. but cars were backed up as far as Randall Road, he said.
