More Rt. 21 costs headed to taxpayers

All of us on the north side of Libertyville have been inconvenienced greatly by the ongoing rework of the intersection and road widening of Highway 21.

That has been galling enough. However, now that we are moving toward completion of the project and pavement, I am amazed at the poor engineering and construction under way.

The base of our new road is dirt overlaid with less than a foot of asphalt and a covering of reinforced concrete.

Since when is asphalt an appropriate bed for a highway?

Politicians will get their campaign contributions from the contractors, who will get rich on the work.

We the taxpayers will pay, and pay again soon as the job won't last. The pork will flow as it does in our state, and we the taxpayers will continue to get ripped off.

Why do we put up with this?
